Staying Visible and Relevant
About Website Maintenance
After successfully launching your site, you have one more step in preparation of its continued success. Maintain your momentum toward online success when you learn about website maintenance, and put these best practices in place on your website.
The importance of keeping your WordPress website updated not only ensures that your visitors will arrive to a fully functioning site, but it will also protect the relevance of your site to Google and all search engines. When pages are not functioning properly because of outdated themes, plugins, or WordPress itself, they break. Knowing that your site is in full integrity with it’s message maintains peace of mind, and less embarrassments.
Most importantly, your visitors, and returning customers, will want to stay on your site long enough to get to know you and your product or service. And isn’t this what you had it designed for?

What is Website Maintenance?
Put simply, Website Maintenance covers all things needing updating, monitoring, or changing on the back-end of your website. This includes software updates like WordPress, themes, plugins, or forms, depending on what functions your site has. It also includes top priority attention to areas that affect your Search Engine Optimization (SEO), such as security, broken links, newly added content, products, services (on-page SEO), the speed of your site’s loading time, and continued functionality for that first impression.
Why do I need it?
Why you need to maintain your website on a consistent basis is to make sure it is secure from threats like spam and malware; to keep it updated so that it maintains all functionality to your current audience and new visitors, and to keep it current in SEO practices to attract and retain customers.
Most of us know that technology changes fast, and it changes rapidly in website design. These changes (updates) effect the basic functionality of your site. If a link is broken, or sections of your site loads slow, or not at all, you lose your visitor. Most often they will not return to see if you have fixed your site.
In 2019, your website’s security is the biggest reason to have your website up to date. Security ranges from spam, viruses and malware, domain registration privacy, content plagiarizing (which effects your search results), and the protection of data being passed between your website server and the user’s browser (SSL).
Can I do it myself?
Of course you can! The first thing you must know is that you can not take the “set it and forget it” approach to your new website. So if you’re determined to do the maintenance and SEO required to keep your website secure, updated, and properly optimized, you simply need to set aside the time to do so. Learning what to do, how to do it, and why you’re doing it will keep you successful with your maintenance routines. You can find all that you need on the internet. There are some great articles to help you! If you want to fast track the process, I provide as well. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions when you need to, and have guidance while you practice hands on.
What if I have an emergency?
Since I offer personalized service, all package clients will have access to reach me at all times. If I have not designed your website, no worries, I’m here for you too. Simply reach out to me with your needs, and we can discuss them and get you back online as soon as possible. If you have a need I cannot help you with, I will be happy to assist you in finding the right support.
What if you didn't design my site?
No problem. I work with several clients whose site I did not design. The first step is to run a backup of your site. Following that, we’ll run an audit to see what kind of condition it’s in. You will receive a detailed outline of all things good and working, and what may need some attention. This will help you determine which package will work best for you.
